10/6/2023
City Council Members Cindy Burchfield, Ryan Taylor, Lori Tidwell, Chancie Bailey and Andrew McClusky are back in Daisetta after participating in the Texas Municipal League (TML) Annual Conference and Exhibition on October 4-6 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas. More than 3,500 city officials and staff from communities throughout Texas convened at the event to share ideas and strategies for success.
The conference provided community leaders with the opportunity to discuss the most pressing issues facing Texas towns and cities, strengthen their connections with other municipal officials from around the state, and meet with 400 exhibiting companies to learn about the latest products and services available to cities.
Mayor Pro Tem Cindy Burchfield facilitated Small City Talks: Emergency Planning an issue-based roundtable discussion offering small city leaders the opportunity to share best practices and engage in a dialogue on preparing for an emergency.
Councilmember Andrew McClusky moderated the City Council and Staff Ethics for Small Cities session that was presented by long-serving TML Attorney Tad Cleaves.
General session speakers included Kevin Brown, motivational speaker and author; Crystal Washington, technology futurist; and Peter Kageyama, urban expert and planner. Concurrent sessions covered a breadth of city-focused topics including cyber security, emergency planning, ethics, economic development, finance, infrastructure funding, public engagement, transportation, water, and more.
TML is a voluntary membership association of 1,175 Texas cities. Guided by its purpose statement—Empowering Texas cities to serve their cities—the League provides support and services to city governments. The City of Daisetta is a member of the Texas Municipal League.
